Julie has been a student of Bonnie Dunlap's for nine years. She and her thoroughbred gelding, Chance, have competed in dressage, hunter, and jumper classes and her most treasured Combined Training Events. Having purchased Chance at age 3 (with countless hours of lessons with Bonnie) training both herself and her green horse to develop into a competitive team is an accomplishment of which she is most proud.
She has been giving riding instruction as an apprentice trainer under Bonnie's guidance for the last 3 years.
She teaches both child and adult beginner riders hunt seat to 2' and Introductory to First Level dressage.
Julie is a "student of the horse" and is Happy Talk Farm's Natural Horsemanship trainer. Using a blend of Downunder Horsemanship, a bit of Parelli and Chris Cox's technique mixed with her own common sense, horse sense and determination, Julie has been able to solve many "horse problems" with her ground training methods. Many a scared, reactive or ill-mannered horse has been brought to a place here they are more confident, safer and easier to handle animals through her methods.
Julie often is heard to say "horses go as they are ridden" and finds the challenge in unlocking the secrets of the horse and rider most rewarding. A blend of patience, empathy and persistence is the key.
Before moving a to Florida, Julie spent several years working with Standardbred (harness) racehorses. Over the years, Warshaw Stables, in partnership with Cotton Standardbreds bred, raised, trained and raced many trotting and pacing colts and fillies through successful racing careers. Still her favorite breed of horse, Standardbreds hold a very special place in her heart.
Julie has been a veterinary technician for 12 years and currently is the Practice Manager at Sunshine Animal Hospital. She has a successful Pet Sitting business, The Canine Companion, and is a licensed real estate agent. She and her husband Larry own New Horizon Realty. They are also blessed to have recently celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary,
She and Larry are also the loving "parents" of 3 cats, Sam, Rags and Merlin, and 2 dogs, Dolly and Lucy.
